The one-day Medical Emergencies Course at SIMS Dental Academy equips dental professionals with the essential skills to manage various medical emergencies in the dental practice. Through practical training and expert instruction, participants will learn to handle emergencies confidently and effectively.

Course Aims

1. Train in adult and paediatric basic life support (BLS).
2. Provide guidance on the use of emergency equipment and medications.
3. Develop practical skills for managing medical emergencies in a dental setting.

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Recognize and manage at-risk patients using the ABCDE method.
2. Measure blood glucose levels accurately.
3. Identify and administer emergency medications.
4. Conduct initial assessments of unconscious patients and intervene appropriately.
5. Position patients in recovery and monitor using the ABCDE approach.
6. Administer oxygen and handle choking incidents.
7. Establish airways based on clinical status.
8. Perform BLS on adults and children, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
9. Develop a systematic approach to managing critically ill patients and coordinate with emergency services.
   Build confidence and proficiency in initiating BLS and using an AED.
10. Learning Outcomes

Participants will:

1. Master resuscitation techniques and emergency management for conditions such as anaphylaxis, hypoglycemia, respiratory obstruction, cardiac arrest, seizures, vasovagal syncope, foreign body ingestion, and hemorrhage.
2. Understand first aid principles and symptom-based diagnosis.

Course Content

1. Basic Life Support (BLS)
2. Managing emergencies like asthma, anaphylaxis, adrenal insufficiency, angina, heart attack, epilepsy, stroke, choking, hypoglycaemia, vasovagal syncope, bleeding, and needlestick injuries.
